Nadine Knits and Blogs

Sep. 17th, 2006 05:57 pm And suddenly there is inspiration again!

Yes, it happened very quickly. All it took was a phonecall from my mom's best friend, telling us that she'll be a grandma for the 3rd time in January. :) I knit for the brother and the sister (5 and 1) and of course I have to knit for baby too! The first gifts are actually done already- the EZ baby surprise jacket that is too big for the intended recipient and a petal baby bib from one skein. The mother adores handknit things and before having the kids she knit too. So...... I guess I ought to recheck all those lovely baby patterns in my EZ books, in One Skein....... and knitty. It might be a girl again. But I think yellow, green and blue work whenever....... as will the EZ jacket I think. It was so much fun to knit, I can't wait to repeat this. I have lots of leftovers in a blue/white/beige colourway- I think it is time to cast that on. :) And sibling socks. All three from one skein of sock yarn...... newborn, toddler, kiddie........ :)

Sep. 17th, 2006 11:39 am Knit, frog, knit, frog........

At the moment I have so much new yarn, so many ideas- but when I cast on nothing seems to work the way I envision it. Part of my problem is that yarn and project are often incompatible. The texture of a handdyed yarn is perfect for the branching out scarf at knitty.com- but the colour makes the pattern disappear. The solid yarn produces a better look but the gauge is off so the finished scarf would be all of 4" wide.
Besides, I really shouldn't be working on new projects. There are so many wips in my basket and I must work on those holiday socks. I really must, even though it is boring work.
All in all I feel not very inspired and I think I ned more pattern books. I was hoping that scarf style would provide more information, I also hoped for One Skein...... but both books have gorgeous projects- but not what I'm looking for at the moment. I need more textured patterns, not intarsia. SO maybe I ought to look into different books that concentrate on just stitch patterns and make my own designs.
I have two more books on my wish list that might work better- Last minute knitted gifts (it is €19 for the English edition, available asap from Amazon and there is the €15 German one, due this month. Do I want to pay €4 to get it now?) and the book by Irish Schreyer on working with luxury yarns.
Hm....... I need ideas. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Sep. 16th, 2006 10:07 am A new Blog....

Well, after my other blog was awol for two days I could not bear the bloglessness any longer and decided to have a second one. So this is my very first test entry! The picture above shows my latest additions to my stash- this wonderful mountain of yarny goodness was the charity auction yarn I won on ebay this summer- and there is amazing stuff- an entire bag of ggh via mala (that is the yellow-greenish yarn), a four ply slightly fulled yarn. Then there is tencel cotton yarn by cascade in a wonderful teal shade, three skeins of wash n wear crepe yarn in orange..... three balls of Rowan lurex yarn in copper, gold and chocolate that is already on the needles for a striped glittery scarf, a ball of DK wool each by Debbie Bliss and Jaeger,  three balls of Rowan Sea Breeze in berry....a very lovely italian ribbon yarn in multicolour, some eyelash that I know will be loved by an elderly relative of mine and is just right for a little scarf for her (she loves that stuff, sigh!) and................. KID SILK HAZE! Which is hiding on this picture, see the little blob of oatmeal coloured yarn in the bottom right corner behind the chocolate lurex yarn? That is it! :)
